Perspectivism and relativism: the concept of relation in the Nietzschean conception of knowledge

Abstract

Nietzsche’s perspectivism is considered a reference by scholars of relativism. However, some specialists in Nietzschean philosophy do not seem to attach any importance to the theme of relativism, and others defend the thesis that perspectivism is incompatible with relativism understood as the conception that all worldviews have the same value. Despite the significant contributions of these studies, the conclusion that Nietzsche is not a relativist seems to be limited in scope, as it results from a conception of relativism that is too narrow. Couldn’t Nietzsche’s philosophy contain other forms of relativism? The answer to this question requires, as a first step, an investigation into Nietzsche’s conception of the concept of relation. This investigation is what this article proposes, limiting its scope to the realm of knowledge.
