Philosophy Teaching and the use of the Textbook: a necessary debate

Abstract

The objective of this article is to discuss the importance of the Philosophy academic community to value in its researches and activities the relation between teaching Philosophy and the use of an textbook. It comes from an evaluation on the social relevance of the presence and learning of Philosophy in the brazilian primary and elementary education using Philosophy textbooks resulted of public policies and questions discourses from the academic community (university professors), regarding this Philosophy teaching that is supported by textbooks to be effective. In those discourses there are, in some points, a exaggerated distinction between a classic text and a textbook. This task aims to produce an affirmative meaning on textbooks to Philosophy teaching and its qualified philosophic expression.

Pedro Ergnaldo Gontijo, Universidade de Brasília (UnB)

Estou Prof. Adjunto no Departamento de Filosofia e no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Metafísica da Universidade de Brasília. Colaboro também no Mestrado Profissional em Filosofia - Núcleo da Universidade Federal de Tocantins - UFT. da Na graduação atuo principalmente com disciplinas relacionadas à formação de professores de Filosofia e na Metafísica trabalho com o pensamento metafísico contemporâneo procurando dialogar tradição ocidental com outras tradições de pensamento presentes na América Latina. Minha jornada de formação acadêmica passou por Ensino Médio profissionalizante como Técnico em Eletrônica (1985), graduação em Filosofia pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais (1993), mestrado em Educação pela Universidade de Brasília (2003) e Doutorado em Filosofia da Educação pela UNICAMP (2008). Minha atuação profissional passou por técnico em eletrônica, professor em instituições privadas e como professor de Filosofia da Secretaria de Educação do Distrito Federal (1996 - 2006). Atuo como membro da Comissão Brasileira Justiça e Paz - CBJP, organismo vinculado à CNBB e da Comissão de Análise de Conjuntura da CNBB. Tenho experiência na área de Filosofia, com ênfase em Ensino de Filosofia no Ensino Médio e Filosofia da Educação, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: ensino de filosofia, educação, psicodrama, integração e criatividade, ética, Metafísica, filosofia política e Direitos Humanos.
