Abstract

This article takes as its starting point the notion of the "new time of the world," proposed by the philosopher Paulo Arantes, around which I articulate the material and subjective transformations of post-covid forms of life. I work with the proposition that these changes are inseparable, a consequence of the perfect fit between platform capitalism and the changes brought about by the covid -19 pandemic. Finally, drawing on the philosophy of Judith Butler, I discuss the difficulty of finding a path for mourning work in relation to the collective losses that are, indeed, the loss of a certain form of human existence.

Author Biography

Carla Rodrigues, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ)

Professor of Ethics in the Department of Philosophy at UFRJ since 2013, researcher in the Graduate Program in Philosophy (IFCS/UFRJ), where she has been studying the thought of philosopher Judith Butler. She was awarded a productivity grant from the Young Scientist of Our State (Faperj, 2017) with the project "Judith Butler: from gender to the critique of state violence". She is one of the coordinators of the Feminist Epistemologies project, approved by Faperj's Humanities call for proposals (2016). She is the coordinator of ANPOF's Deconstruction, Language and Otherness WG and a member of the recently created Philosophy and Gender WG. She is a member of the Deliberative Committee of the PPGF as a representative of the Gender, Race and Culture line of research. She coordinates the Escritas laboratory - philosophy, gender and psychoanalysis (UFRJ/CNPq), listed in the CNPq Directory of Research Centers. She is the author, among others, of "Duas palavras para o feminino - hospitalidade e responsabilidade - sobre ética e política em Jacques Derrida" (NAU/Faperj, 2013) and "Coreografias do feminino" (Editora Mulheres, 2009), and organizer of "Problema de gênero", an anthology of Brazilian essays (Funarte/2016). She holds a PhD and a master's degree in Philosophy from PUC-Rio, and did post-doctoral research at the Institute of Language Studies/Unicamp, with a scholarship from the CNPq program (2011/2013).
