The spirit is a stomach! A phagical critique of P. Sloterdijk’s foamological perspectivism

Abstract

Starting from a provocation by Eduardo Viveiros de Castro on the incompatibility between indigenous and non-indigenous peoples in terms of the Nature-Culture dichotomy, and taking the rhizomatics of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, as well as the perspectivism of Friedrich Nietzsche, as points of support, in this article I intend to articulate a ‘phagic’ critique of the type of perspectivism proposed by Peter Sloterdijk as a description of the dynamics of morphosociological cohabitation in late capitalism, condensed into the topological metaphor of ‘foam’. To do this, it will be necessary to address Sloterdijk’s apology for the ‘Grand Narratives’ and the author’s appropriation of the Deleuze-Guattarian concepts of ‘geophilosophy’ and ‘rhizome’, as well as the Nietzschean concept of ‘perspective’ in order to then explain the ‘phagic’ character of Nietzschean perspectivism as the limit of Sloterdijk’s ‘foamology’ and as a possible alternative model of relational ontology.
