Ecstasy, Parody, Montage: the murder of Vladimir and the theory of the image of Sergei Eisenstein

Abstract
This article discusses the theory of the image proposed by the filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein (1898-1948) focusing the scene of the assassination of Vladimir Staritski in the second part of the film Ivan the Terrible (1945). According to Eisenstein, this scene would be the highest point of all his work, since in it one could find a materialization of his theses on the creation of artistic images. Looking at some of the filmmaker's reflections on this key moment in his artistic and theoretical work, we try to analyze the procedures adopted in this scene, taking as references the notions of MLB (return to the womb), ecstasy, parody and montage.
