Abstract
Editor's Introduction
In this edition of O que nos faz pensar dedicated to the teaching of philosophy, we take the opportunity to publish, as a document that gives historical testimony about education, a 1988 text by Therezinha Gonzaga Ferreira Lessa. Therezinha graduated in Pedagogy and did a Masters in Education at UFRJ. However, its trajectory was marked mainly by its relationship with CEAT - Centro Educacional Anísio Teixeira. Founded in 1969, as a subsidiary of the Escola Pueri Domus School de São Paulo, the school has gained a very specific identity since 1984, the year in which High School was established and in which, with the guidance of Therezinha, it became a non-profit society managed by its employees.
In the text published here, Therezinha discusses education in Brazil, in view of the country's social, historical and political context. If, on the one hand, the text is dated, as it deals with the problems of its own time, on the other hand it can also help to perceive the permanences that certain discussions have when thinking about education in Brazil - and the obstacles that pose for its advance yesterday and yet today. We would like to thank Therezinha's family, especially her daughter Bia Lessa, who have handed us the original we now publish here.
